Image Crop Tool

Cropping and export run in this browser. The image and filename are not uploaded or stored.

JPEG replaces transparency with white. PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. Browser canvas export may remove metadata, so keep the original file.

Output checklist

Crop for the real placement.

  • Use an aspect ratio that matches the destination
  • Keep the focal subject inside the final frame
  • Export no larger than the largest displayed size
  • Check text, faces, transparency, and sharp edges
  • Keep the original image and rights information

Cropping changes composition. Resizing and lossy export can also remove detail, while canvas export may remove metadata.

Use it well

Frame the subject for where the image will be used.

Start with the destination rather than an arbitrary crop. A product thumbnail, article hero, social preview, and portrait slot need different proportions and focal placement. Export the smallest useful dimensions, then inspect the downloaded file at its actual display size.

Common questions

How do I crop an image to a specific size?

Choose the image, enter the crop X, Y, width, and height in source pixels, then set the exact output width and height. Keep crop proportions enabled when you want to avoid distortion.

How do I crop an image to 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, or 16:9?

Select the aspect-ratio preset. The tool creates the largest centered crop that fits the source. Use crop position or exact coordinates to move the frame around the important subject.

Can I crop an image without uploading it?

Yes. Decoding, previewing, cropping, rotating, resizing, and encoding happen in this browser. The tool does not send the image or filename to TomSEOTools or an external API.

Which image format should I export?

Use JPEG for photographs without transparency, PNG for sharp lossless graphics or transparency, and WebP when it gives a useful size reduction at acceptable quality. Compare the downloaded result rather than assuming one format is always best.

Will cropping preserve a transparent background?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPEG cannot, so transparent pixels are filled with white. Inspect soft edges and shadows after export.

Does the crop keep EXIF, copyright, or location metadata?

Do not assume so. Browser canvas export can remove metadata. Keep the original and retain required attribution, licensing, or rights records in the publishing workflow.

Can I rotate the cropped image?

Yes. Choose 90, 180, or 270 degrees. The output dimensions update to match the rotated crop, and you can then enter a different exact output size.

Can image cropping improve page performance or SEO?

Cropping and resizing can reduce unnecessary pixels and improve loading when the result matches the rendered placement. It does not guarantee rankings. For another format and size comparison, use the Image to WebP Converter.
